Sprint customers hoping for a big-screen smartphone under their trees this holiday season just got a new option in the HTC One Max. Set to hit Sprint Nov. 15, the 5.9-inch One Max will retail for $249 and be compatible with Sprint’s high-speed Spark LTE network. The One Max is the big-screen version of HTC’s excellent 4.7-inch One, and rounds out the One family, which also includes the 4.3-inch One Mini

Like the original One, the One Max features an all-aluminum body that, while aesthetically pleasing, adds to the handset’s already significant heft. All told, the One Max weighs in at a pocket stretching 7.6 ounces. That’s heavier than Samsung’s 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega, which weighs in at 7.1 ounces, as well as Nokia’s 6-inch Lumia 1520 (7.4 ounces).

Though mostly identical to the HTC One, the Max gets at least one new feature in the form of a fingerprint scanner just below the handset’s rear camera. From a performance standpoint, the One Max should match up evenly with the original One. It sports the same 1.7-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor as its smaller sibling, as well as the same 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.

Unlike the original One, however, the One Max includes a 64GB microSD card slot. Unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Mega, which sports an underwhelming 1280 x 720-pixel resolution display, the One Max features a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution Super LCD screen.

In terms of software, the One Max is essentially identical to the One and One Mini, though HTC has updated the Max to Android 4.3, and given its interface a boost to Sense 5.5. The upgrades won’t give you much in terms of new features, though Sense 5.5 does make it easier to navigate the Max’s slick Flipboard-like BlinkFeed feature.
