Fall may have just started, but refresh season is in full swing. Among the newbies, ASUS has updated its Transformer Pad series with the Tegra 4-powered Infinity TF701T. With an anticipated November release for $450 in the U.S., the Infinity boasts a beautiful high-resolution display in a sleek one-pound package. We had a chance to take the Transformer Pad Infinity for a spin and see if the pretty high-end tablet delivers.

The 10.4 x 7.1 x 0.4-inch, 1.29 pound Transformer Pad Infinity is about the same size and weight as its predecessor the TF700 (10.4 x 7.1 x 0.33-inches, 1.3 pounds). The sleek, classy-looking machine felt sturdy and we really loved the gorgeous 2560 x 1600-pixel screen it packed. ASUS’ default wallpaper of a lone tree on a grassy plain on the Infinity’s vivid IPS face really shone, with beautifully deep shadows, bright colors and clear details.

On its own, the Infinity TF701T sports few ports, with a microHDMI port, microSDXC card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack on its slim body. A USB 3.0 port and a microSD slot can also be found on the accompanying Mobile Dock keyboard that is sold separately for $150. Together, the tablet and keyboard are expected to, according to the rep, offer up to 13 hours of battery life, but on its own the tablet should last up to 9 hours. With or without the keyboard, the TF701T offers a 1.2-megapixel front camera for video calls and a 5-megapixel rear camera that can shoot 1080p full HD video.

We did not get a chance to test out the Tegra 4 speeds on the Transformer Pad Infinity, but the device is expected to ship with a quad-core ARM Cortex A15 CPU and a 72-core GeForce graphics processor. The refreshed Transformer Pad Infinity also comes with double the RAM of its predecessor, with 2GB. No word from ASUS’ rep yet on whether there will be different configurations of the Infinity TF701T, but the model we saw packed 32GB of onboard memory.
